People have been making New Year's resolutions all over the place. Diets, nicotine patches, those little inserts for your checkbook so you can actually write down what you can spend. Striving for a better quality of life for yourself is a very good idea. Striving for a better quality of life for others is an even better one.
This year my New Year's resolution is to try to take over the world and solve all of the world's problems. Or at least make sure people have adequate sources of food, water, shelter, health care, and all those other delicious notions.
"But how can you go from being the humble secretary* to being the Humble Leader of the Earth?" you might ask. Don't worry, I have a plan. Get excited: that plan includes my soon-to-be-reacquired-skill set of reading and speaking Latin fluently.
Step One: relearn Latin, speak fluently
Step Two: travel to the Vatican, arrange for chit-chat with the Pope
Step Three: dazzle Pope with my amazing dead language speaking capabilities, use said dazzling effect to charm him into signing over power to me
Step Four: use my new-found power and influence as Popess to save the world, bring peace, access to health services, educational/vocational opportunities, and ensuring the majority of Maslow's hierarchy of needs are met for everyone**.
Doesn't that sound brilliant? If, for some reason, this plan fails then I'll have to go through my back up plan of finishing school, joining the Peace Corps, devoting my time and energy to smaller-scale life improvement projects, being a hippie, etc. Buuuuuut I'm really looking forward to the headgear as Popess.
*It's pronounced secret-tary. In case you were wondering.
**I can't promise self-actualization. That's kind of hard to deliver.
